Heeeeeeeeeere we go!

********************************************

**Okay, so I set my alarm to make sure I hit send just before midnight only to realize the journal is set to the eastern time zone.  Bit I swear it was only 2 minutes to midnight here.  Sigh.

So, offically now it is September 11th ... Troop Adoptions are OPEN until the stroke of midnight, New Year's Eve.

As September 11th rolls around once more, we stop and take our own individual ways of marking a moment none of us wish to relive.

This date marks the annual kick off of the
HeroToHero.US Hero Shirt Drive

Deadlines are easily remembered when you think of Heroes with Heart ...

Annual start is Sept. 11th
Shirts need to be to us by Valentine's Day (February 14th)

... Heroes with heart.

First Responders ...  Check out your section for program participation from the homefront.  Go to our homepage at http://herotohero.us/FirstResponders.htm  Qualifiers for first responders include new or barely used shirts, hats, etc., with hometown department logos.  Staple your business card or contact info to the item(s), and write them a message on the shirt.

**Hint:  A favorite shirt is the one personalized from your department. Troops have begun making visits to various departments showing their thanks for the support while he or she was deployed ... Some have sent their shirts back ... Some have even those departments when they returned.

Invite them for dinner, or a ride-along, a tour, or a handshake.  Do it for themorale of all of our heroes not home, and honor those who never will again.  You might be surprised what it does for your own morale.

*Shirt must be in such condition that you would be proud to look a troop in the eye as you hand it over.

Troops ... This is your notice that adoption requests are open!!!  Qualifiers for participation include that your unit must be in the desert and able to receive mail in the March through April timeframe.  It is 1st come, first served.  So far, we have been able to answer every request for the shirt off the back of a hero ... nearly 20,000 to date.  (Not bad for a small merry band of volunteers!)

Again, go the website, and look for the Troop section.  You MUST fill out the online Adoption Request Form http://herotohero.us/Troops/RequestAdoptions.htm and receive a response from us to be put on the official adoption request list.

To be fair, all of you who have sent in early requests, we have to ask you to get back in line with everyone,  Troop adoption requests open at midnight, September 11th.  As long as we get the shirts, we will find a way to get them to you in March.

**A nice gesture from the units is when they actually make contact with the hometown department that gave the very shirt off their backs to pay their respects.  We're getting more and more photos from troops making contact/.  And at every return visit to a fire/police house, they're looking for a picture of their shirt out there in the sand with you.  Send them to us and we will post them and make sure the departments are able to see them here.

We're all from a hometown somewhere, here's a chance to show your support for our troops - without politics - no pro/antiwar sentiment - and no borders to our allies fighting with our troops and in the way of harm.  And yup that means we welcome the Canadians too, eh!!!  (By the way, that's a poke at our Canadian Ambassador, Kevin McHarg, a Sarnia, Ontario firefighter.  Hehe)

This is strictly a Troop morale Campaign.

Hug a hero today, kiss a loved one.  Take a moment.

We remember.
