Day 7 - Topeka

Topeka was a change from the big city departments.  This is a one man department, outside the city proper.  There are three firefighters who rotate on one man shifts.

It was one of our quietest visits.  But then, one guy doesn't usually make a lot of noise out there on his own.

But he is not really alone.  There is always family, and friends who made themselves known while we were there.  Passersby would honk and wave at him, and it was very obvious that there is a lot of local support and respect for the firefighters.  We wondered at first how we had chosen this particular station, then we saw the name of the township emblazoned on their rigs ... Soldier Township.  Can't go wrong there!

Before we left, we had signed shirts and trading cards to add to the collection ... very cool!

Thank you for allowing us to spend some time with you.  it was fun and perhaps we will meet again!

Soooo, we had some fun with the mascot, I see... being a trained observer, I was able to quickly detect the switcheroo between Sharen & the stunt bear.  Such amateurs... tsk, tsk, tsk... But I must tell you, the hair styling on the stunt double is top drawer!!!!

The memorial site was sobering; your photos are exceptional.  You can almost hear the pipes & drums in the background.... God bless them all.

So, did the butter-fingered rescue guy make amends for the botched under-handed catch/rescue attempt?  I saw the nice red haired lady attempting to correct the butter-fingered rescue guy....

That banner is looking gooooodd!!!!!

Godspeed to the two of you - you're making a difference!!
